Built in 1881 and one of New York's first skyscrapers, this nine-storey hotel was lovingly restored by British architect Martin Brudnizki and reopened in 2016. The impressive atrium features nine storeys of wrought-iron balustrades under a big pyramidal skylight. There are quirky design touches such as oriental rugs draped over the check-in desks and pink velvet sofas. The chic cocktail bar and restaurants also don't disappoint.
