Location
The hotel is set on a 65-acre private estate and its gardens extend along to the Helford River where you can pick up the South West Coast Path.
There's no classic Cornish beach here but Maenporth Beach is a short drive away.
By car: 2 hours from Exeter, 3 hours 30 minutes from Bristol and under 6 hours from London. Free on-site parking available.
By train: London to Falmouth Town takes 5 hours, after which, a taxi will take 20 minutes to the hotel. Book trains to Falmouth.
Style
With its cosy lounges, conservatory with views of the gardens and old-fashioned service, this is a traditional country hotel. While the main restaurant is more formal, with a smart dress code and attentive service, the rest of the hotel is more relaxed.

Most rooms have been refurbished recently, while bathrooms are unfussy but modern. Like the rest of the hotel, the rooms still have the feel of a traditional country hotel. Staff are happy to help with any requests - we asked for a fridge and one was quickly delivered to our room.

Breakfast is a lavish affair - continental options followed by a cooked to order dish. Dinner in the restaurant is formal, but for more casual dining, try the conservatory. Food is local, seasonal and presented with flair. When you're so close to the sea you have to try the locally caught fish.
Restaurant: modern British cuisine, seasonal menus. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Four-course menu from £51.
Afternoon tea: served daily in the cocktail bar, conservatory or terrace, 3-5pm.
