The Buxton sits squarely in the middle of fast-gentrifying East London, at the bottom of Brick Lane. This is arty London at its best - Whitechapel Gallery is practically next door, or it's a ten-minute walk to the bars, restaurants and shops in and around Spitalfields Market.

On arrival, guests are greeted in the ground-floor bistro. The décor combines original Victorian features with signature East London design choices - exposed brickwork, trailing plants and pendant lighting. Diners can sit overlooking the kitchen, or with views onto Brick Lane.
As a restaurant-with-rooms, there are no real facilities except the tiny rooftop herb garden. The duty manager was a charming host; staff are friendly and more than happy to help with anything from local recommendations to top-picks from the menu.

Every room comes with a Hypnos bed, spread with Egyptian cotton linens and throws by local textile designer Beatrice Larkin, as well as bespoke artworks to add a pop of colour against the white walls. The ground-floor bistro serves a mean cocktail, as well as a short menu of British-European plates.
