Style

The hotel used to be the home of socialite Lillie Langtry, who sold it to the hotel on the condition that she could remain living there. Her original mosaic floor and staircase are still there, giving a homely feel. Parquet flooring, panelled walls, plush leather and velvet seating also give an air of Golden Age glam.

Service & Facilities

Staff are welcoming and attentive and particularly friendly with dog owners. Dogs are welcomed to the hotel with their own menu, bed and pampering. Facilities such as the private gardens and tennis court are a huge draw, particularly in a location like this.

Bedrooms

Stylish rooms and suites have glamorous features such as gilt framed mirrors, quirky lamps and silk scatter cushions. Marble-clad bathrooms have separate spacious tubs, while other amenities include coffee machines and thoughtfully stocked mini-bars. We recommend the garden view suites.

Room types: Superior Room, Deluxe Room, Junior Suite, Suite, Speciality Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, Nespresso machine, mini-bar, free Wi-Fi

Restaurants & Bars

Breakfasts are a big deal at the hotel; the options are vast. Our fried duck egg, potato, chorizo and spinach dish was delightful. We recommend the succulent Cornish saddle of lamb at The LaLee restaurant. Afternoon tea at Maison Lounge was a real treat, especially the chestnut and vanilla cake.

The LaLee: chic European-style café-restaurant, all-day dining, open daily. Lunch set menu, three courses for £50.

Maison Lounge: serves afternoon tea daily, 12-6pm, from £70 per person.
