Cotswold House Hotel is opposite the historic market hall on Chipping Campden's high street, which offers a wealth of independent boutiques which are excellent for browsing. There are also walks from the doorstep.

Chipping Campden is at the very start (or end) of the Cotswold Way national trail. The nearest station is at Moreton-in-Marsh.

By car: under 2 hours 30 minutes from London, over an hour from Bristol and Birmingham. Free on-site parking available.

By train: London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh takes 1 hour 30 minute, after which, a taxi takes 15 minutes. Book trains to Moreton-in-Marsh.

This is a stylishly comfy venue with an emphasis on relaxation. Public rooms are furnished in modern country-house style with wing-back chairs, lots of cushions and a long sofa-banquette in the bar/bistro area.

The staff are cheerful and helpful. The garden spa features a hydrotherapy pool, aromatic steam room, manicure salon and hair salon. Treatments range from facials to hot stone massages, are based on The Natural Spa Factory products and are offered in five therapy rooms.

Bedrooms come in all shapes, sizes and styles - with rooms in the main building and the garden. Most have feature bedheads and bathrooms with a shower over the bath, while two suites have chic oval baths.

Evening meals are a joy here - the same carefully curated menus are served in Fig restaurant and the more relaxed bistro/bar. The Barbary duck breast with juniper jus was delicious. Magnificent afternoon teas are available in Fig restaurant, or the garden in fine weather. Serious cocktails are created at the bar, which has a range of at least 60 gins.
