Dakota Hotel, Manchester

There's plenty to do and see in the local area, from the Market Street shopping area to the hip bars and restaurants in Ancoats. We loved the Jane Eyre Bar in Ancoats for cocktails before a meal in the nearby Sugo Pasta Kitchen.

The hotel is on the edge of Manchester's cool Northern Quarter, next to Rochdale Canal.

By car: around 2 hours from Nottingham and over 4 hours from London. Paid parking available nearby.

By train: London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly takes around 2 hours, after which, it's a 5-minute walk to the hotel. Book trains to Manchester.

The decadent dark colour scheme gives a touch of classic glamour. There are splashes of colour through velvet cushions spread among the seating areas, and the fire next to reception adds a cosy feel.

Although there isn't a gym or spa, you can ask reception about a day pass for the nearby PureGym. Cigar fans can peruse the hotel's dedicated humidor before relaxing on the terrace. Service is friendly and efficient, and the staff are keen to make your stay memorable.
