Surrounded by hedge-lined fields and copses with nothing to spoil the view, Doxford Hall sits in the middle of a network of country lanes. Interiors maintain a country-house feel with well proportioned rooms, wood panelling, a grand hand-carved staircase, decorative cornicing and light-filled rooms dotted with elegant tables and sofas, all framed by lavishly draped sash windows. The core of the hotel is classic Georgian, though subsequent extensions have carefully matched the style.
The grounds include woodland walks and a fun yew maze and for those that are so inclined, you can work out in the gym, take a dip in the pool or relax in the spa with a treatment or in the steam room. There's plenty of space for everyone, including a Morning Room, lounge, library, bar and large paved terrace. The staff are both professional and friendly.

Bedroom colours are soft and the furniture is solid and handsome, even though much of the furniture is reproduction and there's a refreshing lack of fussy ornaments. Even the 'standard' Classic room is large and elegantly furnished, featuring velvet and softly draped windows.

Dinner is a smart affair, beginning in the bar with canapés before moving to a dining room of starched napery and fresh flowers, where classic dishes with subtle tweaks are served.
