Style

Alex and Katie Clarke, a couple with expertise in hotel consultancy and set design, proudly own The George. With their keen eye for style and design, they have curated an exceptional experience. The inn is adorned with vintage Mulberry fabrics, enchanting William Morris patterns and an assortment of charming vintage embellishments. This carefully curated selection adds a touch of warmth, vibrant colours and an air of effortless style to this 16th-century establishment.

Bedrooms

Individually decorated rooms come in a range of sizes and are swathed in plush, expensive textiles and have quirky antiques or curiosities. Some have pastel wood-panelled walls and oak beams, others have slanted ceilings, cosy nooks and statement headboards. Bathrooms are a mixed bag for size, but larger ones have marble-topped or claw-foot baths and/or rainfall showers.

Room types: Cosy, Classic, Superior, Luxury, Junior Suite

Key amenities: ensuite with chrome power shower, TV, Tivoli clock radio, free Wi-Fi

Restaurants & Bars

The Grill restaurant has cool retro appeal and a buzzy and relaxed atmosphere, as well as a smoky seafood and steak scent that comes from the Josper grill, which reminded us of lazy summer beach barbecues.

The Grill: modern European menu with a Meditarranean slant. Open for lunch and dinner Thursday-Sunday. Mains from £14.

The Dragon Bar: a popular pub offering real ales, draught cider, continental beers and wine. Open daily.
