MORE INFORMATION

Location

This is an idyllic location overlooking the central green in the small inland town of Burnham Market, a few miles from Burnham Overy Staithe. The nature reserves of Titchwell and Cley are an easy drive away and you'll find beaches, stately homes, golf courses, ferry boat trips and a racecourse nearby. Holkham, with its Palladian hall and deer park, is five miles to the east.

The hotel is located a few miles from Norfolk's coastal footpath.

By car: The Hoste is around 3 hours from London and Birmingham, and 2 hours from Cambridge. There is free parking for guests.

By train: London Kings Cross to King's Lynn station takes 1 hour 49 mins. From King's Lynn there is a regular bus service along the coast road - The Coast Hopper - or guests can take a 40-minute taxi. Book trains to King's Lynn.

Style

Once a coaching inn, for over 400 years it has been the central hub and meeting place in this Georgian shopping town. There's a snug front bar that has a large open fire, exposed brickwork and heavy wooden beams. Beyond this is a warren of dining areas, including a newer garden room conservatory and restful, modern rooms.

Service & Facilities

For what is essentially a village inn, there's an impressive array of facilities, including a residents' gym and a small spa. Staff are assured and well-trained, with an efficient reception and competent dining team.

Bedrooms

An array of room types are spread across three locations: the original inn, the Vine House across the road and Railway House, which is 800 yards from the main site. The most affordable are cosy classic doubles in a rear extension, while costlier Divine rooms in Vine House come with smart Zoffany wallpaper and gilt mirrors.

Room types: Classic, Superior, Luxury, Divine, The Railway House Double, The Carriage, Railway Cottages

Key amenities: ensuite with shower, tea and coffee facilities, desk, TV

Restaurants & Bars

Specialising in Modern British cooking, in the morning there's a breakfast buffet alongside cooked options, whilst lunchtime choices include burgers, battered haddock and Binham Blue quiche. The dinner menu ups the ante with Norfolk lamb rump, 28-day dry-aged steaks and pan-fried sea bass. We loved the afternoon tea (a three-tiered cake stand of sandwiches, cakes and scones), served in the lounge with its leather sofas.

The Hoste Arms: Norfolk produce, seasonal specials, seafood, bar snacks, vegan menu. Local beers and fine wines. Mains from £13. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
