MORE INFORMATION

Location

A former coaching inn on the high street, you're in the perfect place for lovely countryside walks. Climb to the top of Broadway Tower, the second highest point in the Cotswolds, for gorgeous views - alledgedly, on a clear day, you can see up to 13 counties.

Broadway is a pleasant Cotswold town that was once a stop for stagecoaches travelling between London and Worcester.

By car: around 2 hours 30 minutes from London, and over 1 hour from Oxford and Bristol. Free on-site parking available.

By train: London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh takes 1 hour 30 minutes, after which, a taxi takes 20 minutes. Book trains to Moreton-in-Marsh.

Style

In keeping with the building's history as a coaching inn, it's warm and cosy, with a laidback feel. Dim lighting, gorgeous stone fireplaces and rugs add to the snug factor. It's believed that Oliver Cromwell stayed here before the Battle of Worcester and addressed the Parliamentary Army from what is now the Cromwell Room - the place excudes history through and through.

Service & Facilities

The staff are welcoming and affable, providing good, friendly service. There's a well-equipped spa, complete with a swimming pool with a retractable roof, steam room and saunas. Wellness facilities also include a nail bar, treatment rooms and gym. There's a pleasant garden tucked away at the back of the property; there's even a helipad, too.

Bedrooms

Rooms are in the main historic building, as well as more contemporary annexes - but all are tastefully furnished. The décor is very much in keeping with the history of the building and the setting - think thick tartan fabrics, antique wooden furnishings and equine artworks.

Room types: Cosy, Classic, Superior, High Street Superior, Suites

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with Noble Isle toiletries, tea and coffee-making facilities, in-room tablet, free Wi-Fi

Restaurants & Bars

The bar offers all-day dining, with light bites, while at Lygon Bar & Grill, you can tuck into seasonal British fare prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The Cotswold lamb is particularly good - succulent and tender, it melts in the mouth. In the mornings there's a breakfast buffet, with hot dishes made to order.

Lygon Bar & Grill: contemporary British cuisine. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

Lygon Wine Bar: cosy bar and lounge. Open Fri-Sun, 12-9pm.
