We love being on handsome Great Pulteney Street - one of the loveliest avenues anywhere in Britain.

Pulteney Street is a short walk from the Robert Adam-designed Pulteney Bridge and the heart of the city.
By car: 40 minutes from Bristol, just over 1 hour from Cardiff and 1 hour 30 minutes from Reading. Paid on-site parking available.
By train: London Paddington to Bath Spa station is 1 hour 20 minutes. The hotel is 10 minutes' away by foot. thetrainline.com

Great for anyone with a taste for the quirky. It's a lovely romantic bolthole. The mismatched collection of objects and curiosities, such as the kaleidoscopes, musical instruments and old medicine bottles are a highlight.

We love the inventiveness of the mixologist in Bar 15, who is always ready with a novel suggestion of what to try. Well-behaved dogs are welcome (for a £20 charge) in the sitting rooms and Bar 15 and some of the bedrooms.

We love the small larder on each floor with complimentary drinks and snacks. The Henrietta with its huge sash windows and the Hideout with hot tub and steam room are highlights.

We love the design twists in the restaurant, such as the antique chemists' cabinets and dispensing jars. The Wiltshire venison with fermented beetroot and local mushrooms is recommended.

Bar 15: inventive cocktails, extensive wine list and craft beers. Open daily 6.30-10.30pm.
