MORE INFORMATION

Location

The Noel Arms is located on one of the most handsome streets in the Cotswolds. Nearby, you'll find the wonderful gardens at Kiftsgate Court and Hidcote Manor.

The inn is almost directly opposite the town's 400-year-old market hall where a plaque marks the start of the 102-mile Cotswold Way footpath.

By car: around 2 hours 15 minutes from London, or 1 hour from Oxford and Birmingham. Free on-site parking available.

By train: trains from London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh take 1 hour 30 minutes, after which, a taxi takes 15 minutes. Book trains to Moreton-in-Marsh.

Style

There's a great sense of history here. Walk through the entrance, and you're in the mellow lobby with a café on one side and the reception desk on the other. Behind is a cosy lounge, conservatory, dining room and old-school bar. Upstairs, you'll find creaky corridors and exposed stone walls.

Service & Facilities

Staff are charmingly welcoming and professionally friendly. There aren't too many facilities but there's an outdoor courtyard terrace for summer drinks and dining.

Bedrooms are traditionally furnished and offer comfort above glamour. Those in the main building have antiques and retro fittings, while there are brighter rooms in a more modern annexe. Most bathrooms have a shower only.

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee-making facilities, TV, radio, free Wi-Fi

Restaurants & Bars

Chef Indunil Upatissa prepares Modern British dishes in the restaurant. He is also applauded for his curries - and there's a curry night once a month. We loved the monkfish, king prawn and squid yellow curry with cumin rice.

The restaurant: British dishes, local produce. Dishes include pan-fried scallops and Cotswold pheasant breast with risotto. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from £12.50.

BeSocial: coffee shop with open fire. Open from 9am.
