Location

The hotel is in the centre of Devizes and overlooks the market square, where every Thursday a farmers' market takes place. It's a great starting point for a waterside or country walk.

The Kennet and Avon Canal and its infamous 29-flight Caen Hill Locks are within easy reach.

By car: around an hour from Bristol, 2 hours from London and 2 hours 20 minutes from Birmingham. Paid parking available nearby.

By train: London Paddington to Melksham takes around 1 hour 45 minutes, after which, a taxi to the hotel takes 15 minutes. Book trains to Melksham.

Outside is an elegant Georgian façade; inside the décor is fresh and modern creating a laid-back atmosphere, although some original features have been retained.

The Peppermill prides itself on its food, where dishes are presented with artistic flourishes and there's a focus on Wiltshire produce. There's also a surprisingly extensive selection of wines, cocktails and gins. We recommend the oven-roasted guinea fowl with rainbow chard, celeriac and potato fondants.

Restaurant: 2 AA Rosette-awarded, fine dining, Modern British cuisine. Locally sourced produce, seasonal menus. Open Tue-Sat for lunch and dinner, Sun for lunch and Mon for dinner.
