MORE INFORMATION

Location

Right in the centre of the Lakeside North business park, with the harbour just a ten-minute drive away, these aren't the most idyllic surroundings but it's well located. Head for a spot of shopping in Gunwharf Quays or visit the Mary Rose Museum and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Southampton airport is 19 miles away. Cosham train station is a short walk away with a regular service into the city centre.

By car: The Village Hotel is 1 hour 45 mins from London, just over 2 hours from Bristol and 35 mins from Southampton. There is private (paid) parking at the hotel.

By train: London Waterloo to Cosham takes 1 hour 50 mins. The hotel is a 15-minute walk or 5-minute taxi ride from the station. Book trains to Cosham.

Style

Housed in a sleek black box of a facade, it's obvious there's no history to be found within this building's clean-lined walls. Instead, you'll find brightly-coloured upholstery, shiny floors, neon lights and amusing pop art on the walls. The bar has exposed pipework and de rigueur bare tungsten bulbs.

Service & Facilities

Service is from an enthusiastic young team and there's a plethora of amenities here, from a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna to the 24-hour gym decked out with the latest gadgets and equipment, a spin studio and a full range of classes. Guests will find a co-working space in the business centre.

Restaurants & Bars

The Pub and Grill have a great all-day dining menu, which includes flatbread pizzas, baskets of shrimp and calamari, burgers, steaks and superfood salads - it's the same menu throughout the network of Village hotels. There's also a popular section for meals under 500 calories and the teriyaki salmon with warm black rice and kale from this part of the menu was surprisingly filling and tasty.

Pub & Grill: informal all-day dining, American-style food, British pub classics. Open daily 12-10pm. Larger plates from £14.
