Style

Part of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, the décor is traditional and classic - think heavy drapes, silks and brocades in dark tones of burgundy, navy blue and gold. In the restaurant, Murano chandeliers hang above brown leather banquettes and still lifes adorn the walls.

Service & Facilities

Expect traditional British hospitality at The Rubens, complete with red-uniformed doormen greeting guests at the entrance. Nothing is too much - staff are always eager to help with a smile on their faces. Facilities are sadly very limited; there's no on-site gym, but guests can work out at City Athletic in Victoria.

Restaurants & Bars

Afternoon tea in the Palace Lounge is often popular, but as the sun sets, the action moves to the New York Bar. The Curry Room serves Indian dishes in a cosy basement setting and the English Grill is the hotel's fine dining restaurant. We liked the Orkney king scallops, served with English chorizo and an applewood hollandaise.

The English Grill: fine dining, 2 AA-Rosette restaurant. Open daily for breakfast and dinner.

The Curry Room: Indian cuisine, open Thu-Mon for dinner. 3-course menu from £75.
