Style

The hotel manages to hold onto its glamorous past through features like panelled walls, marble floors and traditional furnishing - but also has modern comforts. The black and bronze entrance with accompanying uniformed doorman leads through a revolving door to the stylish lobby, which sets the tone for the rest of the hotel.

Bedrooms

On the whole, rooms and suites are neutral with a conventional and conservative feel; Signature Suites are more exciting. By New York standards, rooms are spacious, and are larger the higher up the hotel you go. Some suites offer private terraces with Manhattan views, while On the Avenue suites have direct views of 6th Avenue and the Hudson River.

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, desk, safe, TV, docking station, free Wi-Fi

Restaurants & Bars

Randolph's Bar & Lounge is a great spot for drinks (it currently doesn't serve food). Restaurant Murals on 54 is named after the artworks on display. It offers an à la carte and buffet breakfast, with Vietnamese cuisine later in the day. We loved the colourful murals created by illustrator Dean Cornwall.

Murals on 54: dishes include seafood pho and papaya salad. Open daily for breakfast, Tue-Sat for dinner.

Randolph's Bar & Lounge: drinks served daily, 5-11pm.
